Writing Freely in a New Era of Book Bans with Hannah Toyin Adeyemi

Contemporary public debates around book bans often focus on restrictions after publication. Less visible, but just as pervasive, is the self-editing that occurs much earlier: the constraints we subconsciously or even willfully place on our own creativity when we fear push-back or even censure.

This workshop places contemporary book bans within a longer history of infringements on creativity, then shifts focus to the present day. Adeyemi will offer guidance for avoiding the kind of self-censorship that keeps writers from telling the stories they desire to tell. Participants will have an opportunity to evaluate their own work in light of these points and join a group discussion.

Tickets are free for current GWA members (check your emails for the promo code) and are $25 for non-members. Register today!
