Literary Event Grants of Georgia

Frequently Asked Questions

Georgia Writers Registry Authors

Q: I have an upcoming event at a Georgia library, literary organization/book club, bookstore, or college/university. Am I eligible to get funding?
A: Yes, as long as the event does not take place in Fulton, Cobb, or Dekalb counties. Let us know when your event is and who the event coordinator is, and we’ll do the rest!

Q: Does it have to be held at one of the above mentioned venues?
A: No. In addition to the locations mentioned above, other venues may include: cultural centers, museums, correctional facilities, hospitals, small presses, community and senior centers, galleries, and theaters. Nonprofit status is not required.

Q: How much am I able to receive?
A: We provide grants of $50-$250 for a literary event directly to you. We strongly encourage organizations to match our payments to writers, but this requirement may be waived if there are extenuating circumstances.

Q: What if my event is virtual?
A: No problem! LEGG funding includes both in-person and virtual events that would have taken place in an approved Georgia county.

Q: I was planning to give my event for free. Does this mean I can still get funding for my event?
A: We hope so! Let us know when your event is and who your contact is at the organization, and we’ll let them know!

Q: What qualifies as a LEGG Event again?
A: Literary events include readings, workshops, presentations, performances, and talks.

Q: Can I get funding for past events?
A: Unfortunately, no.

Q: What do I need to do to get LEGG funding?
A: Here’s the breakdown of the whole process:

  1. If you’re giving a reading, workshop, presentation, performance, or talk, you need to e-mail us at terri@georgiawriters.org to let us know when, where (virtual or location), and who the event coordinator is.
We also encourage you to notify them about this funding, and you’re welcome to give them our contact info should they have any questions.
    2. The event coordinator will then fill out two online forms and add logos we provide to their promotional materials.
    3. After your event, it goes back to you and you fill out a short evaluation form online.
    4. If all the above is taken care of, you receive your approved funding!

Q: I have an author/poet friend who has an upcoming event. Can they apply to be on the registry?
A: Absolutely! Please invite them to apply here.

Q: Where can I find more info? What if I have a question not listed here?
A: More on eligibility requirements may be found here. Please feel free to e-mail us at terri@georgiawriters.org with any questions you may have or if you need assistance.
