Workshops

For nine months of the year, the Georgia Writers Association hosts 2-hour writers workshops that focus on some aspect of the writing life: craft, finding an agent, publishing, marketing, and so much more. Past invited authors have included Anjali Enjeti, Sumita Chakraborty, Kerry Neville, and others. Our workshops are held at Elevator Factory, 437 Memorial Dr. SE, A-2, Atlanta, GA 30312.

Other annual events include the Georgia Author of the Year Awards (GAYA) and the Red Clay Writers Conference. GAYA is an annual award that honors authors published in the previous calendar year. The awards cover thirteen categories in both fiction and nonfiction genres. Each year, one winner and one finalist are selected from each category and announced at the GAYA banquet and ceremony. Additionally, the Red Clay Writers Conference is an all-day event that is comprised of multiple workshops that cover topics such as writing, marketing, and publishing.

If you would like for your literary event to appear on the calendar, please fill out the form here. All submissions are subject to review and approval.

Passionate for Justice: Ida B. Wells as Prophet for Our Time–an evening with co-authors Catherine Meeks and Nibs Stroupe

February 12 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$5

Charis welcomes co-authors Catherine Meeks and Nibs Stroupe in celebration of their book, Passionate for Justice: Ida B. Wells as Prophet for Our Time.  In Passionate for Justice: Ida B. Wells as Prophet for Our Time, Catherine Meeks and Nibs Stroupe embark upon a brave and hopeful mission. Having come by separate life paths, this African-American woman and this white American man seek to stand together upon common ground, the revolutionary witness of an extraordinary, and too-little recalled black journalist and churchwoman. Wells’ life remains a profound witness for faith-based work of visionary power, resistance, and resilience for today’s world, when the forces of injustice stand in opposition to progress. Catherine Meeks and Nibs Stroupe will share a bit about how they came to study Ida B. Wells and how her life and legacy may provide a way forward for all people in this political moment of consolidation of power.

This is a Charis Circle Founding the Future of Feminism Event. The suggested donation is $5.
