Workshops

For nine months of the year, the Georgia Writers Association hosts 2-hour writers workshops that focus on some aspect of the writing life: craft, finding an agent, publishing, marketing, and so much more. Past invited authors have included Anjali Enjeti, Sumita Chakraborty, Kerry Neville, and others. Our workshops are held at Elevator Factory, 437 Memorial Dr. SE, A-2, Atlanta, GA 30312.

Other annual events include the Georgia Author of the Year Awards (GAYA) and the Red Clay Writers Conference. GAYA is an annual award that honors authors published in the previous calendar year. The awards cover thirteen categories in both fiction and nonfiction genres. Each year, one winner and one finalist are selected from each category and announced at the GAYA banquet and ceremony. Additionally, the Red Clay Writers Conference is an all-day event that is comprised of multiple workshops that cover topics such as writing, marketing, and publishing.

If you would like for your literary event to appear on the calendar, please fill out the form here. All submissions are subject to review and approval.

Charis and SPARK Reproductive Justice now are excited to announce that SPARK Executive Director, Dr. Krystal Redman, is releasing a book titled, “I am Amyracle…. and I was born early”. “I am Amyracle…. and I was born early” is a family/children’s book that tells the story of Amyr–who was born prematurely at 27 weeks–weighed 1lb 12 oz–, stayed in the NICU for 121 days, and overcame and thrived through a multitude of medical challenges (Cerebral Palsy, Respiratory challenges, VP-shunt, amongst other conditions). This animated book “I am Amyracle…. and I was born early” is told through the eyes of Amyr and is narrated entirely by them. The purpose of this book was to create an educational piece of literature that is “family-friendly” that aims to normalize the topics of prematurity in Black families and high-risk maternal health and birthing outcomes. Reproductive and systemic oppression is directly linked to adverse birth outcomes in Black and Brown folx. “I am Amyracle…. and I was born early” is an animated health education book and personal story that will be used as a tool to add to the conversations of reproductive justice and the intersects of achieving better maternal health.
