Workshops

For nine months of the year, the Georgia Writers Association hosts 2-hour writers workshops that focus on some aspect of the writing life: craft, finding an agent, publishing, marketing, and so much more. Past invited authors have included Anjali Enjeti, Sumita Chakraborty, Kerry Neville, and others. Our workshops are held at Elevator Factory, 437 Memorial Dr. SE, A-2, Atlanta, GA 30312.

Other annual events include the Georgia Author of the Year Awards (GAYA) and the Red Clay Writers Conference. GAYA is an annual award that honors authors published in the previous calendar year. The awards cover thirteen categories in both fiction and nonfiction genres. Each year, one winner and one finalist are selected from each category and announced at the GAYA banquet and ceremony. Additionally, the Red Clay Writers Conference is an all-day event that is comprised of multiple workshops that cover topics such as writing, marketing, and publishing.

If you would like for your literary event to appear on the calendar, please fill out the form here. All submissions are subject to review and approval.

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted: A Novel for Grown Ups at AARL

May 18 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

$5

The Auburn Avenue Research Library will host Author Jayne Allen as she discusses her publication Black Girls Must Die Exhausted: A Novel for Grown Ups

Thirty-three-year-old Tabitha Walker thought she was living her “best life” completely under control. Tabitha’s fortunes take a turn when she learns that the family she always hoped for could slip away. When her body starts to fail in a surprising way, Tabitha must embark on a journey, supported by colorful family and friends, to reclaim her own quirky version of “black girl magic” before the unexpected takes more from her than just her dreams of becoming a wife and mother.

This event is hosted by The Literary Lobbyist Dawn Michelle Hardy. Charis will provide books for sale. This event is free and open to the public.
