For nine months of the year, the Georgia Writers Association hosts 2-hour writers workshops that focus on some aspect of the writing life: craft, finding an agent, publishing, marketing, and so much more. Past invited authors have included Anjali Enjeti, Sumita Chakraborty, Kerry Neville, and others. Our workshops are held at Elevator Factory, 437 Memorial Dr. SE, A-2, Atlanta, GA 30312.

Other annual events include the Georgia Author of the Year Awards (GAYA) and the Red Clay Writers Conference. GAYA is an annual award that honors authors published in the previous calendar year. The awards cover thirteen categories in both fiction and nonfiction genres. Each year, one winner and one finalist are selected from each category and announced at the GAYA banquet and ceremony. Additionally, the Red Clay Writers Conference is an all-day event that is comprised of multiple workshops that cover topics such as writing, marketing, and publishing.

If you would like for your literary event to appear on the calendar, please fill out the form here. All submissions are subject to review and approval.

ATL LGBTQ+ Book Club Reads The Song of Achilles

May 5 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

$5

The ATL LGBTQ+ Book Club is a group for Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ folks and allies to read queer-themed books and books by queer authors! We aim to have diverse thought-provoking discussions about queer identity, history, and topical issues. For the duration of the COVID-19 crisis, our book club, which normally meets at Charis Books & More, will meet online via zoom. All are welcome to join!

You can find us on meetup at: ATL LGBTQ Book Club Meet Up or on Facebook at: ATL LGBTQ Book Club Facebook or feel free to reach out to the group facilitator, Shelby, at shelbykurland@gmail.com

May: The Song of Achilles, Madeline Miller
June: Under the Udala Trees, Chinelo Okparanta and Decatur illustrator Noah Grigni will make a special appearance to read their children’s book, It Feels Good to be Yourself.

This zoom meeting requires a reservation. By joining the zoom call you agree to abide by the guiding principles of the group and code of conduct, including confidentiality, and will not record audio or video of any portion of the meeting without prior consent of the organizers.
