The Monthly Newsletter of the Georgia Writers Association

The mission statement of the Georgia Writers Association is as follows:

Georgia Writers Association is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that works across the state to encourage and strengthen the proficiencies of writers in both the creative and the business aspects of the writing life. We do this through an array of speakers and programs at regular meetings. GWA sponsors workshops, conferences, seminars, contests, and other events. We encourage the formation of satellite groups, critique groups, and other writer resource groups. We encourage the funding of guest authors to various Georgia counties. Our online publications are an attempt to educate and inform the diverse literary community of Georgia. Accomplished Georgia writers are recognized through the Georgia Author of the Year Awards.

A key aspect of our mission is to educate on the craft and business of writing. Our newsletter is structured to meet these goals.

We invite you to submit articles between 500-700 words dealing with either the craft or business of writing. We love author interviews, but please focus your questions on exploring either the author’s writing process or practical publishing experience so that the resulting article will be educational as well as inspirational. We also welcome anecdotes that would be interesting or entertaining to Georgia writers (ex., stories about meeting well-known authors, visiting author’s homes, attending book-related events, examining unique and useful writer tools online and offline, helpful writer anecdotes that relate to business or process, etc.).

If submitting an author interview, please include an author photo and/or a photo of the author’s latest book cover. It is your responsibility to obtain permission from the author or publisher to use these photos. Please indicate in your submission that you have received this permission.

To be considered for publication in the March 2013 newsletter, please send all submissions to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by midnight EST on Friday, February 15^th. We will accept only .docx and .doc formats.

We will consider previously published articles provided you tell us when and where the article first appeared. We welcome simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your article is accepted elsewhere before you hear from us. If you have not received a reply from us in four months, you may assume we have declined your submission.

If your article is accepted for publication, it may be edited for length, content, and grammar. You will have the opportunity to review and approve all suggested changes, with the exception of minor grammar corrections.

We regret that we cannot afford to pay contributors at this time. If we offer to publish your article, your sole compensation will be exposure on the Georgia Writers Association networks (including distribution via our mailing list, website, and social media) and a clip for your portfolio.

Literary Event Grants of Georgia (LEGG)

THE MISSION
Literary Event Grant of Georgia (LEGG) supports writers’ fees for literary events in underserved communities across the state. Literary events include readings, workshops, presentations, and performances.

We provide grants of $50-$250 for a literary event. We strongly encourage organizations to match our payments to writers, but this requirement may be waived if there are extenuating circumstances. To support as many literary events as possible, we generally grant no more to $500 to organizations during the course of our fiscal year (July1-June30).
