The Georgia Writers Registry (GWR) is an adjudicated listing of professional writers who are available for commissions, readings, and consideration for other projects. Its purpose is to provide Georgia readers, teachers, librarians, students, corporate and public entities, community organizations, nonprofits, and others with access to top quality talent in the literary arts.
Organizations who seek to commission a writer featured on the Georgia Writers Registry for a writing workshop, literary reading, or presentation can access writers' full profiles by creating an account. Funding support for writers' fees is available to qualifying organizations through Literary Event Grants of Georgia (LEGG). Please review the LEGG grant guidelines before applying.
Applicants to the GWR must be residents of Georgia, and also earn a minimum of 12 publication points based on the following point system:
Upon submission of an application, GWA staff will conduct an eligibility review. A peer review panel, made up of experts, will then adjudicate the applicant's credentials based on the criteria listed below as well as writing samples. If accepted to the GWR, the nominee will be asked to submit additional information for the GWR web page.
Criteria and Scoring Process
The quality of an applicant's credentials will be evaluated by a peer review panel based on a writing sample and the following criteria:
Artistic Merit: 50 points
The writer is recognized regionally, nationally, or internationally, having been published by recognized independent presses, magazines, or publishing houses. Honors and awards from respected journals and/or competitions as well as services, such as commissions and presentations, are also considered. At least twelve of these points must be earned through publication credentials.
Artistic Excellence: 50 Points
The writing demonstrates a high-level of skill, knowledge of the form/genre, and unique stylistic vision.
Applications may be submitted at any time and are reviewed quarterly.
The writing sample should be no more than 10 pages of fiction or creative non-fiction, six poems, or two scenes from a play. All items should be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF formats and should represent an example of the writer's best work. Please do not send books. Any writing samples that exceed these guidelines will not be reviewed.
Only information submitted on the application will be adjudicated by the review panelists. Please use the extra space provided on the application for additional details. NOTE: Although the minimum number of publication points required for eligibility is 12, points are allocated for each published piece you record in your application, and this affects your total score in the Artistic Merit category. Please do not submit a resume or CV in lieu of the application.
Please note you will be unable to save your information on the PDF form, so you must either fill out the PDF and immediately print, or print a blank copy and handwrite information.
