Been off line for a while. Just returned from a business trip to Europe, where I ran into a few former colleagues at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria. They are reading Black Waters, my novel about a nuclear inspector based in Vienna.
BLACK WATERS is a nuclear thriller written by David H. Hanks, who was among recipients of the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the International Atomic Energy Agency Secretariat for their work in preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. Black Waters takes the reader to Europe where Carson Griffin finds himself investigating a uranium smuggling incident when he encounters a hint of a monstrous te
I was unable to make changes on the Members Event screen, but Brooks County Library will be holding a book signing for Black Waters, a new David H. Hanks nuclear thriller. The book signing will be on February 11, 2012 in Quitman, Georgia at around 0900 AM.
I've just come back from three weeks in France. My first Christmas there ever. Must say I wasn't ready to come home. Three days home tomorrow and I'm starting to get back into the swing of things thanks to all my online contacts and organizations! There is so much to catch up on and so much to do. If I think about it too much I get overwhelmed. So I will take it one day at a time. More posts soon!
Seeing Black Waters in the on-line book stores has given me a little kick to move on with the next project. Gotta admit, don't blog much...but, it's beginning to gain greater appeal.
great group you have going LISA!!! I will point other GWA members your way. I hope to upgrade the website as soon as all the major events are done in November, so this might even be a better place to go...I like this on our site for members only because it is our little writing place - private. Use FB to invite people to your group! I will also advertise it on our mailing if you send me some information! Like how you want to invite, the title of this group and its purpose. How to join it..link...I will send out a mailing after Saturday's workshop! Thanks again for great work!
It may sound like an unattainable dream, but, one thing that helps me motivate when I don't feel strong, is to remember my husband, Geoffrey, and how he has stuck to his career to give us a very good life. I would LOVE to someday be able to offer the same to him. To give him the choice of whether or not he wants to work outside the home. Whenever I'm feeling sorry for myself or unsure of what I'm doing, I think of him and how he supports me in all ways. How can I do less? This is a key for me, to think outside of myself, because I feel that when I don't at least try to live up to more than I think I can be, that is a selfish way to think. It works for me to think of others and what I can share with them. Posting here and on my blog, twitter, linked in, whatever also helps. Gets me out of my head!
Tammy, great post. Thanks for sharing. I too, have those days where inspiration, or just plain downright self motivation is difficult to find. I too, use my blog to help get jump started sometimes. Twitter is also a good way to ease back in for me when I'm unmotivated to move. Also, making sure I have the time to write every day is a challenge. For some reason it scares me...I think it has to do with belief in myself and my abilities, my lack of at times. Writing is not an easy task but it sure is amazing how good one feels at the end of a good 'writing' day...
Today is a day of inspiration for myself. Often times I feel discouraged about writing and just life in general. As I sit in front of this amazing, informational tool called the internet, I realize I have all the inspiration I need - YouTube, Blogger, Facebook...and website after website of inspiring words. The video I posted really touches me so I felt it necessary to share. My new venture in blogging with WordPress has been great so far. My writing is improving and I have made amazing connections with other published authors and writers in general. I managed to write my contest entry short story for the upcoming "Scare the Dickens Out of Us" deadline. How do you all inspire yourselves?
Just rejoined the GWA, getting to know my around the webpage. I moved away from my writers group in Augusta, GA and l'm looking to bounce some ideas around.
Tammy, sounds like you aren't far 'behind' me at all! I've done most of what you've done as well. I haven't hired a writing coach, but have had other authors critique at conferences etc. It is, as you said, a very good learning tool. I started writing seriously 17 years ago. No one ever told me it would be easy! I had to stop for about 4 years, but am back to it full time now. I spend at least 80% of my time here, in front of a keyboard and screen, writing, marketing (as in social/internet) and trying to keep up with paperwork. Then there is real life on top of that. I began with a historical fiction novel which turned into a series of three. Then I wrote my currently published work Evangeline's Miracle, and I am now revising another novel, The Seventh Man. Each novel is different, not necessarily the same 'genre', but I tend to write mostly about characters. I'm very interested in the lives, loves, joys and sorrows of my 'people'. So I have to be careful about adding enough descriptions and placements. Got to go for now; will write more soon! Keep in touch!
Welcome to all members! I am happy to have you join me in this endeavor. Please let me know what you are looking for, what you would like to discuss here. I'm interested in all things marketing, sharing works in progress, time to write, etc. Just let me know. I've started a discussion on current works in progress. So, if you'd like, share yours!
A group to share information, discuss fiction writing, the writing life and whatever else we come up with. Sometimes it's just good to know there are others out there struggling with the same issues you are tackling.
Here is an invitation for all who might be interested and in the area... Saturday September 17th at 3PM

Lisa, sounds pretty good. Your title triggered a memory I had of The Third Man tour in Vienna. If you're ever in Europe, it's worth the time to see the tour.
