In this workshop, Ted Dunagan will discuss what it means to write in the young adult genre, as well as his writing process, themes in his novels, his favorite passages, the books' underlying history, and what it is like to be a published author. Ted Dunagan won the Georgia Author of the Year Award in 2009, 2011, and 2012 in the Young Adult category for his novels A Yellow Watermelon, Secret of the Satilfa, and Trouble on the Tombigbee, respectively.These are the first three novels in a series about Tom and Poudlum, two ten-year-old boys separated by race but brought together by friendship during the late 1940s in southern Alabama.
