Georgia Writers Association

This year, 82 Georgia Authors were nominated in 13 categories. Other awards included the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Taran Family Memorial Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award is selected from Georgia Authors who have contributed significantly to the landscape of Georgia writing.  Dan Veach, Editor of Atlanta Review won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his leadership in Poetry Atlanta and beginning the Atlanta Review keeping Atlanta on top of the Poetry scene and as he noted, this kind of support for poetry in the Atlanta community is not the norm.

The Taran Family Memorial Award is selected each year by Board Member and co-founder of GWA, Geri Taran in memory of her family.  This year she selected Stephen Bluestone for his nominated poetry book, The Flagrant Dead because she admires his use of language in his poetry and Bill Copeland for his story, From Ashes to Vistula. Taran commented that her family would be proud that she selected this book in remembrance of the Holocaust.
