All members’ entries are welcome. These monthly contests encourage all our members to take some time to write. The monthly themes are meant to stretch the limits of their imaginations.
Membership must be current to enter.
Contest Guidelines
1. There are now just two submission categories: Fiction/Essay and Poetry. You may submit up to five entries per category. For a category to be judged each month, at least five writers must submit their work.
2. Fiction and Essay (2000 words max.) - Word count must be listed at top of page; Poems, 80 lines max. Name and email address at top of each entry. Entries must be carefully edited. The assigned topic must be included or alluded to in all entries. You may submit more than one entry but only one can win in each category.
3. No profanity or sexual content.
4. DEADLINES: Entries are due by midnight on the last day of the month.
5. Entries should be emailed to mailto:lmrussell@georgiawriters.org They may be in the body of the email or as a .txt or .doc attachment. Place your name,email address, title, and approximate word count at the top of the email. In the subject line please include the title of your entry and the words “Monthly GWA Contest.” All submissions will be acknowledged by return email. No hard copy entries will be accepted.
6. The winning entry each month in each category will receive 25 points. Second place will receive 20 points. Third place will receive 15 points. Fourth and fifth places will receive 10 points each.
7. At the end of the year all points are totaled, the person with the highest number of points in each category will receive $50.00. Second place will receive $30. Third place will receive $20.00. For second and third places, the person’s total points from both categories will be used to determine the winner. Only four total prizes will be awarded.
