Naomi Williams is the author of two novels—Two Rivers (2002) and Jacob’s Daughter (2007). She was born in the Low Country of South Carolina, the setting for both books, and enjoyed an illustrious forty-two-year career as an English teacher in Augusta before retiring in 1993. She now lives in Brandon Wilde, a lifecare community in Evans, Ga., with her beloved companion Prince Hamlet, a long-coated Chihuahua. Her life moves on, perhaps at a slower pace, but definitely still on an active trek. She remains a voracious reader and a lover of classical music, frequently attending performances in Augusta. She is the surviving founder of St. Luke Anglican Church, which was organized to preserve the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, and she serves on the vestry and as its secretary. She still is a substitute teacher at Augusta Preparatory Day School, the institution from which she retired and which has a scholarship bearing her name. Additionally, she plans the programs for one of the book clubs at Brandon Wilde. Recently she also volunteered as a tutor in the youth program at Ft. Gordon designed to enable dropout teenagers to acquire high school diplomas. Within a few months she will be an octogenarian, but she has no plans to slow down for a long, long time.
