 Mekael L. Shane was born on October 17th, 1970 and was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mekael attended Central State University, located in Ohio, where he Majored in Political Science, and Minored in English.After leaving school, Mekael decided to return home to Indianapolis, where he heeded the call to work, serve and impact his community by taking a position of employment with a non-profit organization that directed its services and skills toward positively impacting the lives of the youth who live in Indianapolis' urban community. That organization, Project IMPACT-Indianapolis, is where Mekael would grow professionally, personally, and poetically, having served in such roles as Instructor, Program Manager, up to, Operations Director, and it was also during this period, that Mekael sought a way to positively impact the world around him. It was while there at Project-IMPACT, that Mekael began writing. Being in a position to see first hand and upclose, the sense of malignacy that coursed through Indianapolis' urban communities, Mekael began writing and sharing his work, as a way of impacting and rebelling against those ills that were tearing his city apart. Mekael's entre' into the artistic and creative community in Indianapolis, became Mekael's sounding board for his community activism. Mekael's recently published collection of poetry, titled 'The Genesis A Collection of Poems by Mekael', is a culmination of that journey. Mekael is currently hard at work compiling the pieces of his soon to be released next collection, which is scheduled for a summer 2008 release. |
