The Georgia Author of the Year (GAYA) created in 1964 by the founders of the Dixie Council of Authors and Journalists. In 1984 that organization became the Council of Authors and Journalists (CAJ), and when Georgia Writers Association was born, the last remaining CAJ members voted to turn over the duties and responsibilities of the then thirty-year old event, to GWA. GAYA has thrived and remains the oldest literary award in the Southeastern region. |
